Micaela Calabresi on a mission to Green Geek

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Even when we told you about Green Geek and their project to disseminate the wi-fi networks in the Italian territory. We currently have an interview with Micaela Calabresi tells us about his collaboration in this initiative.

Micaela, Tell us about the project and your role within essthe.

I promise I'll try to be brief :)

First things first: about a year ago, in dell'Ortica district in Milan, were born Green Geek, which is constantly, among other things, for free information and access to the network. For me, meeting with the boys dell'Ortica, has been a real lightning. I returned to Italy years ago with the desire to do something for this country and now, finally, thanks to them, I know I made the right choice.

But back to the project: during the 150 anniversary of the unification of Italy the Green Geek, in collaboration with Wired and Peugeot, launched the initiative "150 antennas 150 common”; the first 150 municipalities that have joined the project are receiving antenna wi-fi to allow citizens to connect to the Internet for free and in complete safety to one hour per day. Once you have registered, you can connect automatically to all hot spot gwi-fi scattered around Italy. To date there are already app "Alarm Italy"Android and iPhone that allow you to locate the nearest antenna and signal the activation of new hot spot.

This ambitious project was shared, so, we decided to organize a report, a real tour of Italy, making a stop for the region to tell Italy that wakes.

We present the crew?

That's it! We 3: c'è Margot, Our mascot high as antennas that we are in the municipalities, Rafael c'è (Meira handle ndr), Brazilian transplant but for many years in Milan, that will be shooting video throughout the trip and, to finish, The undersigned, that will be tasked to accompany the video of Rafael stories in a blog devoted to the project.

We share a route so that our readers can come to assist? :)

Soon you will find an online map with details of actual events (time and exact address), Meanwhile, here's the list of cities we're going to visit:

we leave the 2 June from Cervinia (Valle d'Aosta), then we will be in Turin (Piedmont), Pietra Ligure (Liguria), Cagliari (Sardinia), Arezzo (Tuscany), Perugia (Umbria), San Giovanni in Tuscia (Lazio), Montecorvino Pugliano (Campaign), Scalea (Calabria), Catania (Sicily), Latronico (Basilicata), Bari (Puglia), Santa Croce di Magliano (Molise), Palena (Abruzzo), Mogliano (walking), Bologna (Emilia Romagna), Montegrotto (Veneto), Udine (Friuli), Rovereto (Trentino) and 23 June arrives in Milan!

We will also stage two "extra" in Genoa, to meet "digital citizens"Aquila and to ensure that the antennas that we have brought the 6 April this year to be fully functional and healthy our friends Abruzzo.

His Facebook i Green Geek are already posting to the list of events "Geek in trip”, then, stay tuned ;)

What do you think you need to tackle a challenge like that?

The things I need I have already: a fantastic team that is organizing the whole, a Director, Although resigning, strongly believed in this project and allowed us to realize (Richard Moon, Director of Wired editor's note), a friend and colleague with whom I have shared more of a challenge and a mascot of a certain level ... and a good height!

What I hope to find is, before anything else, l’entusiasmo. We dream of being able to engage and enthuse all the Italians who meet. I wish that this trip really unite Italy, not only in a symbolic way. I would like the freedom of information and access to the network and desire to become the heritage of all. I am convinced that Italy could be devas and "wake up". I am an incurable optimist! :)

What should a woman do to seize an opportunity similar to yours?

Work hard for what he believes. Not for money, passion for. Wanting to be free to decide their lives. Learn to say no and the, counter, never be afraid to embark on an adventure. But this is particularly true for women as for men.

Why does a woman go around planting of satellite wi-fi?

Because the antennas are the wi-fi access to information, that each of us can build his personal vision of the world; the freedom of information, can be, is one of the pillars of democracy.

Why wi-fi antennas allow us to share with the rest of the world in real time what works and what does not work in the city and country where we live.

And then, let's face it, the network cable is uncomfortable ;)

If I were a man would have been much easier?

In. I see no difference. The world of "geeks" - and you are a prime example - has neither time nor desire to worry about stupid discrimination.

How is this new commitment to work Margot?

Before giving the floor to Margot, I would like to report a comment signed Green Geek to a post appeared yesterday on Facebook:

Us Military, that, Green Geek and each receives a mission, and is responsible from start to finish: We are adamant on this! For this reason, when Margot Calabrese sent by e-mail saying that his candidacy is carried Micaela Calabresi and Rafael Handle we have given the whole, moreover, who better than she could take care of the two hotheads that accompany?! ;-)

Second, Margin, it's your turn.

How do I live this new commitment to work? What can I say ... it's an honor to manage this important project and, it was not for the company, everything would be perfect. So, Micaela and if Rafael I will put a spoke in the wheel, will be a success!

About, Michi forgot to tell you something important: we need your help to find by region, City by city, the best places to eat during the tour ... because I refuse to eat dog food treacherous, be clear!

See you soon!

No Wi-Fi, no party…

A few days ago, The sad discovery was that the location of the event-to provider issues and scaffolding on the tower Asinelli temporarily covering the antenna of Hyperbole- lacks wi-fi, has thrown into discouragement!

To raise our spirits came the valiant Green Geek, that with so much of the following antenna, will help us with the wi-fi.

Green Geek is an association of professionals who have been in head, among other things, to bring wi-fi throughout Italy through the project GWi Fi, and how?

For example, spreading a network of hot spots that provide to those who connects to the network access free wi-fi for an hour a day.

GWIFI is an antenna that connects to the internet of those who endorse, once connected, antenna wi-fi sharing with each registered guest by providing coverage for an hour the day.

To access the connection should GWIFI subscribe to then run to do it, Saturday so that on arrival, you'll soon have access to our network!

It therefore appears that on Saturday, not really miss anything…

We wait and thanks Green Geek!

The bagels, that good!

Lately we GGDBologna like to go around the world and every time we come back we want to share with you what we have seen.

After publishing the interesting experience of our Aurora @ CES2011, I also add some gem U.S., telling some geek thrill (half-serious) experienced during their stay in NYC and Chicago (in addition to real chills, those for the cold U.S., especially in the Windy City).

FREE WIFI ACCESS, THERE!

A NY e Chicago network access is continuous and free, offered by every local around the corner (in addition to the usual Starbucks and Pret a Manger) from the clothing store at the museum, the city network to the hotel ... On my list of iPhone WiFi spot was continuously updated as I move from place to place, without the aid of any WiFi Finder, I was spoiled for choice! In addition, seems that the new iPhone 4 just out to Verizon is activated for use as Personal Hotspot 5 different devices ... oh well, fantascienza…

FOURSQUARE – IL GEOMARKETING, THERE HE ALSO!

I will have done a thousand check-up 4Square, a swarm of tips here and there and many special offers for new customers or auditors, many Special Nearby, or suggestions to buy in the shops near to where I had just entered, or discounts, a second drink or a free appetizer offered. In short, stuff not seen here in Italy (apart from the free loyalty card that gives the mayor of each Coin stores about ..., is the true story of Italian 4Square user who turns to the contract saying Coin "I am the Mayor" and law call security? ;) )

During the vacation I became mayor of the hotel when staying in Chicago - I did not have any money, ok, But I was pleasantly surprised when, after a few hours from the happy event, Hotel congratulated me via Twitter and the following Friday I was one of his FollowFriday!

"THREE YEARS SEPARATED FROM THE AMERICAN CULTURE EUROPEAN DIGITAL"

TOUCH GLOVES, Official accessory

These gloves have been my faithful companions: of warm wool and with the tips of thumb and index of a material that can interact with the screen of the iPhone, so You can tweet without freezing your fingers!!

KATE SPADE iPHONE CASE, for the iPhone that there is more fanatical
